Texas Panhandle Granite Wash

The lambert 1 hryhor and sundance fields in oldham county texas produce oil from the niddle pennsylvanian canyon granite wash. In northeastern oldham county the fault system may have provided a hydrocarbon migration route. In certain plays the natural gas is found as deep as 17 000 feet. It is a significant field for both oil and gas production and although the formation is predominantly composed of sand has been a beneficiary of horizontal drilling methods developed for shale plays.

Canyon granite wash conglomerates and sandstones have a total thick ness of about 450 feet 137 m and were derived from granitic rocks of the bravo dome. The colony granite wash is a subset of the greater granite wash plays of the anadarko basin. The granite wash oil play is geographically quite a large area located in the northern texas panhandle spreading to western oklahoma and southwest kansas. The texas panhandle and southwestern oklahoma is home to an abundance of unconventional targets most notably the cleveland tonkawa and marmaton formations.

People think of this as a texas pan handle only play but it s pervasive throughout the area. In texas our intrastate natural gas pipelines are connected to the major natural gas producing formations in the texas panhandle including the granite wash formation and delaware and midland basins in the permian basin. This decades old tight sands play about 160 miles long and 30 miles wide covers parts of western oklahoma and the texas panhandle and horizontal drilling there has produced some exceptional rewards lately. We anticipate completing approximately four extended lateral granite wash horizontal wells.

The source beds of oil are most likely penn shales that are interbedded with the reservoirs. Oil natural gas are found in multiple zones at depths between 11 000 and 13 000 feet. It is pushing the granite wash play which has been known to be concentrated in the north easternmost texas panhandle distally to the east into oklahoma and north into hemphill county.

Annual production from the texas panhandle averaged 96 3 mmcfe per day 10 oil 39 ngls 51 natural gas. The colony granite wash is situated at the eastern end of a series of des moines age granite wash fields that extend along the southern flank of the anadarko basin approximately 60 miles into the texas panhandle.
